A Good Teacher
A man or
woman who teaches the students in any educational institution is called a
teacher. A teacher, specially a good or an ideal teacher, is one of the most
important people of a country. He is a valuable asset to any country. He is the
architect of a nation. A good teacher is a friend, philosopher and guide to the
students. He makes lesson interesting to them. He awakens the students and
arouses their eagerness for learning. He makes them confident and proves them
clever. He discovers the hidden treasure in each student. He also wants them
happy. He keeps them busy at school and at home. His general nature is also
good. So, a good teacher should have necessary qualifications and professional
training.
A
Street Hawker
A street hawker deals in various things by hawking
from street to street. He carries his materials on head and sometimes in hand
and sometimes in a small handy cart. He generally buys his goods at a cheaper
rate and sells them at a good profit. A street hawker is very cunning. He knows
his business well. His customers are children and women. He brings toys, sweets
and other things for children and sell them at a fixed price at a good rate. He
also brings fruits, fancy goods, and things of domestic uses for women. He
speaks in different ways to draw the attention of his customers. A hawker also
knows the time/hour of his business. He does not come when housemasters are at
home. Rather he comes when women are free from their household work and duties.
Our
National Flag
Every country
has a national flag of her own, which symbolizes the independence and
sovereignty of the country. Like other countries we have a national flag of our
own and it is very sacred to us. We are really proud of it. We achieved it
after a long sanguinary war of liberation in 1971. It bears a great
significance. It is the pride and symbol of our nation. It is rectangular in size and is very nice to look at. It may
be of different sizes but its length and breadth must be in the ratio of 10:6.
The middle portion of it is round and
red which symbolizes the rising sun. the remaining portion of it is bottle green in colour. Its bottle
green colour stands for the everlasting
freshness of our youth and vitality of our nation. It is the symbol of all our
hopes and aspirations. It is our duty to uphold the honour of our national flag
and pay homage to it.
A
TEA STALL
A tea stall is a common sight in Bangladesh. Tea is
served in a tea stall. It is found everywhere . It is available not only in a
town but also in a village market. Usually tea, biscuits, cigarettes, and cakes
are sold in a tea stall. It is a crowdy
place. All sorts of customers come here. They sit and take tea there.
Besides taking tea, the customers gossip there. They also discuss political
affairs. The owner of a tea stall handles the tea stall. He keeps boys to serve
tea to the customers. He receive money from the customers. He is well behaved.
In a city tea stall, the owner and the
boys are nicely dressed . But this is quite opposite in a village tea stall.
Gender Discrimination
Gender discrimination means to
create difference between men and women. Specially in the third world countries
women is considered inferior to men. In spite of their having merits and
capabilities, they are not given what they deserve. They are working
in the family and outside the family, but their contribution is not
seen with due honour. There are various reasons why women are not given equal
rights. Firstly most of the people of our country are not educated. They fail
to see the potentialities of the women and the contribution they have made in
different sectors of our life. They think, as women are physically weaker than
men, they will not be able to perform many duties that men can do and
hence they must be dominated by men. Secondly people of our country are
superstitious. They do not know their religion properly. In religion men and
women have been given equal position. But in the name of religion they try to
dominate over women and do not give opportunity to flourish. Female children
are the worse sufferers. Even their birth is not received warm heartedly where
at the birth of male children they distribute sweets to express their
happiness. The female children are considered burden of the family. They are
not given equal food, equal opportunity for education. They become objects of
negligence and victims of social injustice. This is a great problem which is to
be solved. If our people are educated and given proper knowledge of religion
they will understand the value of woman and can learn about the contribution
they are making. If our female children are groomed up properly they will be
able to carry any responsibility bestowed upon them and our society will
advance very quickly.
Natural
Calamities In Bangladesh
Bangladesh
is often called a land of natural calamities. Flood, cyclone, storm, heavy
downpour, drought often visit our country. People here work and live, fighting
against recurring natural calamities. Bangladesh lies in the tropical region
and its land is low. Almost every year cyclone or storm hits our country in
summer or in the late autumn. The havoc caused by the cyclone is beyond
description. Almost everything that comes within its sweep is destroyed or
carried away. Houses and buildings are blow down, giant trees are uprooted.
Drought in summer causes damage to crops almost every year. The system of
irrigation is not adequately developed in our country. Torrential rains and
rush of water from the upper north bring about flood almost every year. The
rivers overflow their banks. Fields of crops go under water. The floods in 1974,1987 and 1988 caused a
huge loss of life and property. On all occasion flood water reached up to the
top of houses. People took shelter on tree tops, railway lines. Hundreds of
people turned homeless and shelter less and became and became hungry humanity.
Our people live fighting against all kinds of disaster and calamity. But they
cannot do much against natural calamities. They can only make up the loss when
the intensity of the disaster is over. This is the hard lot of our people.
Environment
Pollution
Nature,
land, air, water, plants and other things around us in which we live are called
environment. Environmental pollution means ecological imbalance. It has become the great burning global
problem now. It is threatening the very existence of the human being and our
civilization. Mainly, expansion of industries, multiplication of the mechanized
transports, destruction of forests, contamination of the air, seas water by use of chemicals
are the responsible for environmental pollution. Air , water, sound, and odor
are elements of environment. These elements are being polluted in many ways. This is
damaging the human life both born and the unborn. To save this beautiful soil,
people should be the environment lessons. Moreover, tree plantation is the important measure to keep the ecological
balanced. It is impossible for government alone to safeguard the environment.
So we all have to contribute in building up a healthy environment.
Environment Pollution
All the ingredients that we have around us are jointly known
as environment. Environment pollution implies the contamination of the
surroundings. Any abnormal change of environment in chemical, physical and
biological characteristics in environment is called environment pollution. Environment
is the whole system of our existence. Our environment is becoming polluted
everyday for several reasons. Human beings mainly pollute environment. Massive
industrialization is an important cause of environment. Smoke from motor
vehicles also pollutes environment. Serious environment pollution occurs in big
cities because buses, trucks and cars play in the streets everyday and emit
smoke. Mills and factories also pollute water. They throw their waste products
into rivers and canals. By burning wood and melting pitch for road construction
people make more smoke and pollute air. We use pesticide in our crop fields. It
also pollutes our environment. Indiscriminate cutting of trees has also turned
unbalanced environment. The ecological balance is being lost as a result of
environment pollution. If we all desire to live a healthy and tranquillized
life, we should make our environment clean and free from pollution. We should
be all whole-heartedly in keeping our environment fit for habitation.
Life of a day labourer
Bangladesh is a country of
overpopulation. Different people works on different occupation. Many of the
people are daily workers. The people who are engaged in daily work on hire are
called day labourers. A day labourer is a very familiar person to us. Generally
he has no land and property of his own. Day labourers live in both towns and
villages. He rises early in the morning
and goes out in search of work. He works hard from dawn to dusk.”No work ,No
wages” such is the fate of a day labourer. If he gets more work, he earns more.
When he earns more, he and his children
can eat to their hearts content. When he doesn’t get any work, he and his family have to go
without food. Really the life of a day labourer is a painful one in our
country. He can hardly enjoy peace and happiness. His misery knows no bounds
when he falls ill. We must recognize his service and do something for him so
that he may live a decent life with dignity.

Favourite Teacher
The
name of our school is ______________School.It is a big and famous school. We
have many qualified teachers in our school. Almost all the teachers of our
school possess high quality and high personality. So I like all the teachers.
But __________________who teaches us English is my favourite teacher. He is a good and an ideal teacher. He is an
M.A in English. He is a highly qualified person. He teaches us English. He
explains his lessons in such an easy way
so that all the students can understand it. He makes his lesson interesting and attractive to us.
He is very frank, helpful and kind. When any students goes to him with any sort
of problems, he helps him/her sincerely.
He is not only our teacher but also our guide. He leads us to the right way. He
always tries to give good company with us. I like him very much.
A
blacksmith / A village blacksmith
A
blacksmith is a person who works at a smithy. There are village and urban
blacksmith. A village blacksmith works in a rural area. He is physically a very
mighty man. His hands are very large and heavy. The muscles of his arms are
very strong. They are similar to iron bands. His hair is crisp, black and long.
His face is like the tan. His bow is wet with honest sweat. He earns his bread
and butter by the sweat of his brow. His work is very risky and troublesome.
His smithy remains always warm and flaming. While the bellows roar, the burning
sparks are created. They fly around smithy. He makes different domestic tools
and equipment. Without his service
domestic chores and out of home activities cannot be done properly. So his
labour should be duly evaluated.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities mean some duties to deal with or take care of somebody or
something for which one may be blamed if something goes wrong. Responsibilities
are the state of being responsible. They affect not only our personal life but
also our social and national life. They can make a man great They supply a man
honour, respect and status. They help us to establish our supremacy over all
the creatures of the world. They earn name and fame for us. If,
responsibilities are neglected or ignored one must lag behind or be criticised.
They are essential to establish peace and prosperity in our life. It is known
to all that the person who is able to perform his responsibilities perfectly
and properly is honoured and respected every where. In our text Anwar, Kashem, Rina
and a lady have showed their responsibilities and have been ranked young
heroes. Performing their responsibilities, they have saved the life of Rina's
grandmother. So, nothing but responsibilities are must to decorate our
individual life as well as social and national life.
An Accident
The unpleasant event that happens unexpectedly and causes injury or damage or
death is called an accident It is not planned in advance. It happens unintentionally.
It causes great harm to life. By facing accident one may be injured, or wounded
or even lost one’s life. It brings distress and tragedy not only in individual
life but also family life as well as national life. It very often damages
various organs of our body and makes our life burden with unbearable troubles
and sufferings to the society. It also snatches away our valuable life and
makes a family helpless. It also causes huge economical loss. Accident may come
any time. It has no specific age or place. In our text we find that Rina’s
grandmother who is enough adult has fallen in an accident Rina has to face an
accident while he was going to school with some eggs for Mr. Anis Ahmed.
Accidents of all kinds are very dangerous and dreadful. So, we should prevent
accident anyhow. By taking precautionary steps and being careful we can prevent
accident In this regard, for raising awareness among the mass people print
media and electronic media can play an important role by publishing or
broadcasting different types of programmes.
The ghost is the spirit of a dead person that a living person believes, they
can see or hear. It is nothing but an imaginary creature. It is an illusion of
a frightened person. It has no stable physical shape. It is only an imaginary
shape of one’s inward eyes. It is nothing but deceptive appearance. It is seen
that some people believe in ghost They believe the dead bodies of the human
beings perish but their souls exist in the world. They are immortal. The souls
of the good persons live in peace but those of the bad persons try to do harm
to the people becoming ghosts. They can assume any kind of figures when they
wish. They roam here and there especially in the darkness and frighten a lonely
person. Some people also believe that the ghost is one of the supernatural
beings. In our text The Ghost is a one act play. Here Keramat
who is actually a poor village labourer has acted in the character of a ghost
He covered his body and head with a piece of white cloth. A bamboo frame had
been fixed inside the cloth to make him tall and strange. He especially
frightened a lonely passerby who had a
bag or basket full of rice, fruits and fishes. Sana, Tareq, Malek took the matter
in their hands. One night they confronted the ghost and caught it It was none
else than Keramat
